Step 5: Economy
Craftconomy3 and Vault
Putting money into your world isn't as hard as you would think, but there are some key things to keep in mind when doing this so that all of your mods will work together with it. You must have a working SQL server running, as explained in Part 4 so that you can use Craftconomy3. CraftEconomy3 is one of the few economy mods I found that was free, supported sql, and never caused me any trouble with bugs or crashes.
As of this writing, the best mods to handle your servers economy for free that I have found are Craftconomy3 and Vault. Vault is a very small plugin that you do nothing but put the file into your plugins folder, it is there to let the economy plugin talk with all the other plugins. You can get vault by following its link in The Mods page. Craftconomy3 is nice because once you have it setup, you won't need to touch it very often and its commands are easy for kids to remember.

Setting up Crafteconomy3
First make sure both mods have been downloaded and placed into your plugins folder. Then start the server and join with your player. The first thing to do will be to setup craftconomy through the command line. It will guide you through this, the main part to be sure about is the SQL server credentials. Once completed you'll have a new economy with its own name for dollars etc if you choose and you can begin to use the /money commands. Do some quick test to make sure you are able to give money to yourself. You can also look at the code below on how I answered the questions to get going. If the MySQL setup fails, check all your settings and then start the process over again by entering the command "/ccsetup".
