Step 1: Starting the Server
These are the first steps to getting started with your own Spigot Minecraft server.
- Create a new folder on your computer that will contain the server and all the files it will create.
- Make sure you have Java installed, if you can play minecraft on the computer, you already have this step completed.
- Get the spigot server "spigot-1.9.4-R0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar" file from: https://getspigot.org/
- Place the "spigot-1.9.4-R0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar" file into the folder you created and rename it to be "spigot_server.jar"
- Now create a new "text document" file called "Start_Server". Don't make a Word document, you want just a plain notepad/Text Document file with no fancy formatting.
- Paste this into the file and then save:
Start_Server.bat
- Now you need to make this file able to run as a program. On windows you can either rename the file and change .txt to .bat or do Save As and rename it with a .bat and set the Save as Type to "All (*.*)" If successful, you'll see its icon changed to a black square with an outline.
- With both files in the folder you created, simply double click the Start_Server.bat file and if things are working properly your server will start up and then stop, telling you that you need to agree to the eula license. It will have created a new file called "eula.txt" in the same folder as our server files, we need to open it up, and change the "eula=false" to "eula=true", save the file, and then start the server one more time.
- You'll now have a command prompt window appear with lots of text scrolling by, this is your server and its going to create the new default worlds, create settings files, and lots of other folders for use. When it finishes generating the worlds it will say "Done" and its ready to be joined.
- Load up your Minecraft client, click on multiplayer, then click on Add Server and put in localhost as the name and the address, you should then be able to connect.
- To stop your minecraft server, type "stop" into the command window that it is running in and hit enter.
